Description
Azolla is a tiny plant, only about 1/4″ long. Azolla rapidly reproduces, and in still water plants intertwine creating a floating mat. Azolla is also referred to as Fairy moss. This floating pond plant is a true fern having leaves that are finely toothed and fuzzy. The fine roots of Azolla trail below the delicate, lacy green fronds and reproduces rapidly in the warm weather of summer. Azolla will turn red during the spring and again in fall when water temperatures are cooler. This attractive floating pond plant will grow in damp soil or on moist rocks along the ponds edge.
This plant is grown locally (Malta) by one of our partner aquarium plant keepers/breeders and is sold as a tub of 5 cm.
